    • Description

The Barón de Ley Finca Monasterio Rioja 2022 is Barón de Ley's iconic flagship model and is one of the finest red wines from Rioja. The wine comes from the vineyards surrounding the historic 16th-century Benedictine monastery where the winery originated. A carefully composed blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo produces a powerful, elegant wine with great concentration, ripe fruit, and an impressive length. This wine is also vegan.

Blackcurrants, licorice, coffee, and dark chocolate

The wine has a deep dark purple color that immediately reveals its intensity. The aroma is dominated by ripe blackcurrants and blackberries, followed by notes of coffee, licorice, cocoa, roasted herbs, and subtle balsamic tones. The taste is full-bodied, powerful, and concentrated, with velvety tannins, a beautiful balance between ripe fruit and oak influences, and a long, elegant finish where chocolate, spices, and dark fruit linger.

Manual harvest and aging in French oak

After a very strict selection, the grapes are hand-picked and transported to the winery in small crates. Only the best grapes are processed. Fermentation takes place in specially designed tanks, after which the wine ages for approximately fifteen months in 275-liter French oak barrels, half of which are new. Subsequently, the wine receives additional rest in large French oak foudres, allowing it to develop more complexity without the oak dominating.

Perfect with grilled beef, game, and stews

This powerful Rioja is at its best with grilled sirloin, côte de boeuf, rack of lamb, game dishes, slow-cooked stews, and other rich meat dishes. It also forms an excellent combination with aged hard cheeses. Thanks to its refined structure, it is also a wonderful wine to enjoy quietly without a meal.

      Barón de Ley

Barón de Ley was founded in 1985 around a former Benedictine monastery in Rioja. Unlike many Rioja producers, the winery works almost exclusively with grapes from its own vineyards. This gives Barón de Ley complete control over the quality, from vineyard to bottle. Finca Monasterio is considered the flagship of the winery and perfectly demonstrates how power, elegance, and modern Rioja craftsmanship come together.

Why choose Barón de Ley Finca Monasterio?

This wine is an excellent choice for lovers of powerful, complex Riojas with great depth. The combination of black fruit, licorice, coffee, chocolate, and refined oak influences creates an impressive wine that is already delicious but will continue to develop for years to come. A true gastronomic wine that belongs to the absolute top of Rioja.
