seasons of wine

As the seasons change, so does our preference for wine. In the warmer months we reach for crisp whites and refreshing rosés, while in the colder months we crave powerful reds and warming fortified wines. Here are our favorites for the best wines for each season:

Sauvignon Blanc - This refreshing white wine is perfect for a hot summer day. Look for wines from France, such as the Beaurempart Grand Reserve Blanc or the Sancerre Blanc. Israeli wines also fit well in the summer. Think of the Barkan Sauvignon Blanc and the Gamla Sauvignon Blanc.

Rosé - Nothing is as summery as a glass of chilled rosé. Try the beautiful rosés from Rioja, Spain, such as the Baron de Ley Rosé or the South African Simonsig Rosé Chenin Blanc.

Sparkling wines - For summer, a refreshing and fruity sparkling wine is perfect. Examples of this are the Kaapse Vonkel Brut and Brut Rose from South Africa, which have a very pronounced taste of fruit. Another sparkling wine that is delicious for the summer are the Cava Mistinguett's, this Spanish wine has a really refreshing taste. So both are perfect for the summer.

Pinot Noir - This light red wine is perfect to enjoy on a cool fall evening. Look for a wine with light to medium body and a smooth texture. A wine that ticks these boxes is the Macon Rouge from the Louis Jadot winery.

Chardonnay - This versatile white wine pairs perfectly with fall meals like roast chicken and pumpkin. Try the delicious Chardonnay from Petah Tikva, Israel, from Barkan Winery or the French Pouilly-Fuissé, Louis Jadot.

Beaujolais Nouveau - This young and fruity red wine is released on the third Thursday in November, marking the start of the holiday season. Try the vibrant and succulent Beaujolais Nouveaus from the Beaujolais region of France.

Cabernet Sauvignon - This full-bodied red wine is perfect for warming up on a cold winter evening. Look for a robust wine with a full body. Examples are the Mount Hermon Red and the Châteauneuf-du-pape.

Port - This port wine from Portugal is perfect for drinking by the fire. Try the delicious Taylor and Graham ports.

Chianti - This classic Italian wine pairs perfectly with hearty winter dishes such as stews and roasts. Look for the elegant and complex Chiantis from Tuscany, such as the Chianti classico rocca delle macie.

Riesling - This versatile white wine pairs perfectly with spring flavors such as asparagus and peas. Try the delicious Rieslings from Germany, such as Prinz Rielsing Hallgarten Jungfer GG and Prinz Riesling Frugernberg Lage.

Pinot Grigio - This light and refreshing white wine is perfect to drink on a sunny spring day. Look for a fresh and spicy Pinot Grigios with a light body. Think of a Kamnik Pinot Grigio Single and the Cormons Collio Pinot Grigio.

Gamay - This light red wine is perfect to enjoy on a warm spring evening. Try the delicious and fruity Gamays from Beaujolais , France, such as Domaine de la Madone or Chateau des Jacques .

Whatever the season, there is always a suitable wine. And if you're looking for these wines or other great options to try, be sure to explore the different regions and varietals, and don't be afraid to try something new. Cheers!
